WhatsApp tests updated iOS interface for emoji reactions

WhatsApp is working on adding more message reaction emojis to the six currently available to users on iOS devices, according to a WABetaInfo. report.

The app currently allows Android and iOS users to choose from six reactions, including Like, Laugh, Surprised, Sad, and Thank you.

Updated reactions on iOS will include a plus symbol which, when tapped, will display a draggable pop-up to select and search for more emojis to react with.

It will also remember recently used reactions and display them at the top of the popup.

The feature is currently in development on Android and iOS, and there is currently no release date specified.

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, announced that it start rolling out reactions to messages on Thursday, May 5, 2022, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the platform will add more options in the future.

“Reactions on WhatsApp are starting to roll out today,” Zuckerberg said.

“We include 🙏 to help spread thanks and appreciation. More expressions to come soon.

WhatsApp’s message reaction feature differs slightly from Facebook’s because it ditched the “care” and “angry” reactions in favor of the “thank you” emoji, as Zuckerberg mentioned.
