SRINAGAR: An interface day between SKUAST-K scientists and valley farmers was organized by the Extension Directorate, SKUAST-K on September 12, 2022.
The program was attended by scientists from the Extension Directorate and about 50 farmers from up and down the valley. Extension Director Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi chaired the event.
At the start of the event, Prof. Purshotam Singh officially welcomed the farmers and explained to the participants the importance of the event. Farmers interacted with scientists and raised various issues/problems faced by farmers in agriculture and related sectors. The Director of Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, who himself is a renowned veterinary scientist, gave a PowerPoint presentation and deliberated on the way and means to combat and manage lumpy skin disease, a problem important that UT as well as the country are facing.
In this important speech, Prof. Makhdoomi elaborated on the symptomatology of viral diseases and pointed out that the recommended management strategies such as quarantine of infected animals, sanitation of animals and animal shelters, vaccination of animals not infected and other treatment measures recommended by SKUAST Kashmir should be religiously followed to curb the spread of infection.
Later, an interactive session was held in which various questions, myths, apprehensions and concerns raised by the attending farmers were very humbly addressed by the dignified director of extension to the best satisfaction of the farmers. Finally, the event concluded with a formal vote of thanks.
